Singapore Announces Business Travel Bubble

Singapore will launch the Connect@Singapore initiative to allow business travellers from all countries access to the Lion City.

The new Connect@Singapore programme, announced by the country’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Chan Chun Sing, will create a new segregated travel lane for business travellers on short-term visits to the city.

Business travellers and “high economic value travellers” will need to apply for this special access, with applications open from mid-January 2021 for visits of up to 14 days. Special health protocols will be put in place to ensure the safety of both travellers and Singaporean residents, including routine testing. Business travellers must not have made any trips in the proceeding 14 days but would not be subject to quarantine or stay-at-home notices.

The move, a positive step towards the normalisation of travel in the post-Covid era, comes just weeks after the city pulled back from its planned travel bubble with Hong Kong as the latter entered a fourth wave of Covid-19 infections. The bubble, which was planned to commence on November 22, has been postponed until 2021. However, the Lion City has recently entered into a one-way travel bubble with Taiwan, which has managed to keep Covid-19 cases very low.

The air corridor allows for quarantine-exempt travel for Taiwanese travellers who have not left the island in the past 14 days and who will be required to take non-stop flights and undergo PCR tests upon arrival.
