Headed on a business trip and worried about luggage space? There are a few tricks to packing a suitcase that will make your trip all the smoother.

For corporate travelers, efficient packing can make the difference between a seamless trip and a stressful one. Mastering the art of packing a check-in suitcase ensures you arrive at your destination with everything you need, neatly organized and ready to go. Here are some tips to pack your check-in suitcase most effectively.

Plan Your Wardrobe

Begin by planning your outfits for each day and occasion. Opt for versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched, reducing the number of items you need to pack. Stick to a cohesive colour scheme to maximise outfit combinations.

Roll, Don’t Fold

Rolling your clothes instead of folding them can save space and reduce wrinkles. This technique works particularly well for t-shirts, pants, and casual dresses. For formal attire, consider using garment bags or packing folders to maintain their shape.

Utilise Packing Cubes

Packing cubes are a game-changer for organisation. Use them to separate different types of clothing, such as business wear, casual outfits, and undergarments. Not only do they keep your suitcase organised, but they also make it easier to locate items quickly.

Pack Shoes Strategically

Place shoes at the bottom of your suitcase, near the wheels. This balances the weight and prevents them from crushing other items. Use shoe bags to keep them separate from your clothes and utilise the inside of shoes for packing small items like socks or accessories.

Leverage Every Inch

Make use of every nook and cranny. Fill empty spaces with smaller items like belts, ties, or toiletries. Packing these items in gaps helps to stabilise the contents of your suitcase and maximises space.

Keep Essentials Accessible

Pack a small, easily accessible bag with essentials such as toiletries, a change of clothes, and important documents. This way, if your luggage is delayed or lost, you have everything you need to get by.

Protect Your Electronics

Use padded cases for laptops, tablets, and other electronics. Place them in the middle of your suitcase, surrounded by clothes for extra cushioning. Consider packing a portable charger and necessary cables in your carry-on for easy access.

Follow the 3-1-1 Rule

For liquids, gels, and aerosols, adhere to the 3-1-1 rule – 3.4-ounce  (100 ml) containers, one quart-sized clear bag (approx 1 litre), one bag per passenger) to avoid issues at security. Place this bag in an outer pocket of your suitcase for easy removal during screening.

Headed on a business trip and worried about luggage space? There are a few tricks to packing a suitcase that will make your trip all the smoother.

Weigh Your Luggage

Before leaving for the airport, weigh your suitcase to ensure it complies with airline weight restrictions. Overweight luggage can incur hefty fees, so it’s best to distribute weight evenly or remove unnecessary items beforehand.

Double-Check Travel Restrictions

Familiarise yourself with the airline’s baggage policies and any travel restrictions at your destination. This can help avoid surprises and ensure a smooth check-in process.

By following these tips, you can pack your check-in suitcase efficiently, ensuring a stress-free business trip. Proper organisation not only saves time but also helps you travel confidently, knowing you have everything you need at your fingertips.

If you’re looking for a travel essential that stands you apart from the other urban warriors waiting at the carousel, you’re in luck with the newest additions to Globe-Trotter’s James Bond homage. The British luggage brand, which has had a long collaboration with the thriller franchise, has released three cases and a luggage tag, each decorated with eye-catching octopus designs inspired by the art of Maciek Piotrowski and paying homage to villain Octopussy’s silk robe, which she wears when encountering 007 on her floating island in India.

The range includes a four-wheel carry on case, a four-wheel check-in case, and a streamlined take on the brand’s attache case. All three are constructed from Globe-Trotter’s signature vulcanised fibreboard, which is made up of 14 layers of recycled paper bonded with zinc, ensuring lightweight and durability. Luggage and lifestyle brand Tumi has added edgy and futuristic new styles to its 19 Degree Aluminum luggage collection.

The new additions – a Backpack, Compact Carry-on, Briefcase and Minaudiere – coincide with the brand’s new campaign starring Tumi global ambassador and pro footballer, Son Heung-Min.

The 19 Degree Aluminum Backpack is the first of its kind for Tumi, and has been designed with a leather back panel featuring the signature 19 Degree contours. Guaranteed to turn headed and crafted from superior aircraft-grade aluminium with fluid-looking curves that mirror the design of our iconic hard side cases, the backpack features a push-to-open latch to maintain a sleek silhouette as well as a built-in combination lock, a leather top carry handle, an add-a-bag sleeve, and four recessed dual spinner wheels.

Luggage and lifestyle brand Tumi has added edgy and futuristic new styles to its 19 Degree Aluminum luggage collection.

The new Compact Carry-On scales down the signature 19 Degree DNA for a compact, yet equally design-forward carry-on, ideal for the business traveller with a need for smaller luggage that can easily fit under the seats of most airlines. Features include a frame opening system, corner bumpers for added protection, a TSA combination lock, a retractable top carry handle and telescoping handle, and dual spinner wheels. Inside the case, you’ll find three card pockets, three open pockets, a removable file divider, and a padded laptop compartment.

The Minaudiere is a more fashion-forward statement piece, and coming in three colourways and with two detachable shoulder straps, it’s a versatile style ready for nights out and special occasions.

Finally, the 19 Degree Aluminum Briefcase is striking from every angle, with the iconic curves at 19-degree angles and the durability of aluminium reimagined in this sleek briefcase.

Japanese designer clothing brand EVISU has collaborated with British luggage company Globe-Trotter on a new suitcase collection.

The crossover EVISU x Globe-Trotter suitcase, produced to a limited run of 100 globally, is made with the British brand’s patented vulcanised fibreboard, which is exceptionally tough and resilient.

The EVISU x GLOBE-TROTTER 20-incih Carry-On Case combines one of the classic styles of Globe-Trotter, and features printed canvas with street-inspired graffiti elements. Details such as EVISU’s logo, the iconic seagull, and the Ebisu motif add a playful spin to the design.

The case is secured with leather fastening straps to underline the vintage spirit of the luxury luggage brand. Every detail is well thought out, including the numbered leather plaque and customised Globe-Trotter key.

Globe-Trotter was founded in 1897 by David Nelken in Germany. The century-old luggage manufacturer is the epitome of artisanal savoir-faire, with all luggage and travel accessories handcrafted in Hertfordshire, England using traditional skills and machinery.

Japanese designer clothing brand EVISU has collaborated with British luggage company Globe-Trotter on a new suitcase collection.

In 1912, an experiment was conducted at the Zoological Gardens in Hamburg to prove the strength of the material, in which a one-tonne elephant rested its entire weight on a Globe-Trotter suitcase without breaking it, driving home the lightweight durability of the luggage brand. Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was a fan of Globe-Trotter, as are contemporary celebrities such as David Beckham, Kate Moss, and Emma Watson.

CALLUM Creates Aviation-inspired Cocktail Shaker with BA https://www.theartofbusinesstravel.com/news/martini-mixer-british-airways/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=martini-mixer-british-airways Sat, 26 Aug 2023 08:51:43 +0000 https://www.theartofbusinesstravel.com/?post_type=news&p=14823 Design firm CALLUM has created the Martini Mixer, an aviation-inspired, precision-engineered cocktail mixer in partnership with British Airways.

Design firm CALLUM has created the Martini Mixer, an aviation-inspired, precision-engineered cocktail mixer in partnership with British Airways.

The design and engineering business, which specialises in bespoke and limited-edition products, has created a modern martini mixer that is designed and engineered to stir – not shake – the cocktail at the perfect speed. The mixer’s precise motorised stirring motion balances the ultimate combination of aeration, dilution and cooling to create a smoother cocktail blend, resulting in the ultimate martini.

The Martini Mixer has been produced in collaboration with British Airways, luxury British watchmaker Bremont and award-winning mixologist Mr Lyan (Ryan Chetiyawardana, creator of London’s White Lyan cocktail bar). The home-grown British brands have all contributed their expertise to create this exclusive and stunning specialist mixer that has been engineered and crafted with exacting precision to make the ultimate martini, every time

The CALLUM design team took inspiration from aviation and British Airways’ aircraft for the Martini Mixer’s design and its elegant cylindrical form. The Martini Mixer’s main body – or ‘combustion chamber’ – has been machined from food-grade stainless steel 316 billet, which encases a borosilicate glass vessel, resistant to thermal shock for the ultimate iced cocktail.

Design firm CALLUM has created the Martini Mixer, an aviation-inspired, precision-engineered cocktail mixer in partnership with British Airways.

Fixing atop the combustion chamber is the ‘turbine’, which is the mixer’s control unit. Inside, a motor and rechargeable lithium-ion battery powers a hollow stainless steel mixing paddle. CALLUM’s engineers executed Mr Lyan’s precise instructions to ensure the specially-designed mixing paddle rotates at the optimum revolutions per minute (rpm) – between 120-160 rpm – to deliver a perfectly blended and cooled martini in under 15 seconds

“Aviation is at the heart of this fun yet engineering-inspired design,” says Ian Callum, design director at CALLUM. “At CALLUM, we aim to create products that ‘stir the imagination’ – we’ve taken it more literally this time, and hope that all who taste a cocktail from the Martini Mixer enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.”

“We took cues from British Airways’ aircraft in both its form and materials. A sleek, almost aerodynamic design, it has no external switches to disrupt its lines. Within the mixer’s control head unit, and encased in glass, is a decorative turbo fan machined from aluminium and inspired by turbofan engines on British Airways aircraft. It is finished in the brand’s signature ‘Gold’, echoing the décor in the exclusive Concorde Room. In the centre of the turbine is a replicated fan nose cone, hand-painted with a white swirl design as per the aircraft.”

Design firm CALLUM has created the Martini Mixer, an aviation-inspired, precision-engineered cocktail mixer in partnership with British Airways.

“CALLUM takes a precise and engineering-led approach with all our products,” says Adam Donfrancesco, engineering director at CALLUM. “The motor inside the mixer’s turbine drives a hollow paddle engineered to move freely through the liquid with minimal resistance. The shape and rotational speed was defined – after guidance from Mr Lyan – on the best way to mix a martini: you’re not trying to blend the liquids; you’re stirring the ice cubes through the liquid to cool the cocktail most efficiently. The paddle moves at 120-160 rpm, depending on the size of the ice cubes, so that in less than 15 seconds the ultimate martini is created. Once mixing is complete, simply untwist the turbine to stop the paddle spinning, pour and enjoy.”

The Martini Mixer’s perfected stirring action automatically activates when the turbine is tightened and locked into place atop the combustion chamber, thanks to a magnetic start/stop function. This also illuminates interior LEDs, allowing a glimpse of the mixing cocktail through a viewing window.

The sealed turbine houses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that has a generous run time of 120 minutes; the equivalent of around 500 martinis per charge. It can be recharged through a concealed USB-C port.

Design firm CALLUM has created the Martini Mixer, an aviation-inspired, precision-engineered cocktail mixer in partnership with British Airways.

The Martini Mixer is accompanied by a machined stainless steel strainer that continues the turbine graphic, featuring multiple apertures for a smooth pour. All is beautifully presented in a bespoke case, including an instruction card on how to create the ultimate martini.

The Martini Mixer was first created for British Airways’ customers travelling through its exclusive Concorde Room at London Heathrow Terminal 5. Travellers will now be able to sip the perfect ‘Turbine Martini’ ahead of their flight, an exclusive recipe curated by the airline’s award-winning partner mixologist, Mr Lyan. The Turbine Martini takes on the elegance of an original martini with a modern twist, combining classic ingredients such as vermouth, custom bitters and a bespoke garnish, with British Airways’ newest gin partner, Aviation American Gin. When martini lovers are ready to enjoy the cocktail, the airline’s Concorde Room colleagues will mix and pour the Turbine Martini seat side.

“We are really excited to work with the very best experts in design, engineering, and mixology, to create a bespoke experience and offer customers what we believe to be the best martini in the world,” says Calum Laming, British Airways’ chief customer officer

As the last of the mighty 747 airliners rolls off the Boeing production line, Breitling launches a limited-edition Navitimer celebrating the jet that revolutionized air travel.

They may be a little rare these days but it wasn’t that long ago that the Boeing 747 dominated passenger flight globally. Known as the “Queen of the Skies”, from the moment the first production model taxied onto the runway in 1969, the Boeing 747 was destined to change the face of air travel. The original jumbo jet, which had two aisles and two decks, could carry double the passengers of the next-largest jetliner and fly more than 5,000 nautical miles.

The Boeing 747 went on to revolutionize commercial aviation, putting long-haul flights within reach of a new generation of air travellers and connecting the world like never before. Now, as Boeing gets set to deliver the last 747, Breitling commemorates the game-changing aircraft with a special-edition Navitimer, limited to 747 pieces.

The Navitimer, developed by Breitling in 1952, was originally conceived for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and would go on to become the de facto pilot’s watch throughout the golden age of civil aviation, with its defining circular slide rule that could perform all in-flight calculations.

As the last of the mighty 747 airliners rolls off the Boeing production line, Breitling launches a limited-edition Navitimer celebrating the jet that revolutionized air travel.

747 First Flight‌-in Flight 7

The new Navitimer Boeing 747 features the AOPA logo at 12 o’clock, representing its heritage as a pilot’s chronograph. The colours on the dial echo the palette found on the original Boeing 747, captured in its cream dial with black subdials and red-and-white slide rule with blue accents. The “Boeing 747” name is subtly integrated into the slide rule’s inner scale, while the watch also features an integrated date window at 6 o’clock. It is available on a black alligator leather strap or a seven-row metal bracelet.

Flip it over and the watch’s open caseback reveals the exceptional Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 movement, which offers approximately 70 hours of power reserve and is backed by a five-year warranty. The caseback contains the special engravings “One of 747” and the phrase “The Original Jumbo Jet” – a poignant tribute to an aircraft that, over more than a half-century of service, opened the skies and changed the way we travel. The 1,574th – and last – Boeing 747 will be delivered this year
