Pullman Hotels & Resorts has created The Transforming Room, an innovative concept room to meet the blended needs of today’s travellers.

‘The Transforming Room’ is a high-spec, high-tech space designed to be a place to work, meet, socialise, work out, relax and sleep. The concept is the culmination of two years of research on consumer behaviour, business traveller needs and design innovation and will lead to flexible environments that cater to the dynamic needs of modern travellers in future Pullman hotels.

A Road Map for the Future

With a mindset rooted in serving the lifestyle needs of professionals, Pullman understands that the world is constantly evolving, and so too are the ways in which people travel, collaborate, ideate, and connect. Located in Pullman Singapore Orchard, the concept room serves as a pioneering showcase of the brand’s innovative spirit, allowing guests to experience firsthand the design and cutting-edge features that will shape the next generation of Pullman hotels. The Transforming Room is fully wired with thoughtful technologies and digital enhancements, enabling guests to adapt to their personal environment with the touch of a button.

Transforming Design

Upon arriving in The Transforming Room at Pullman Singapore Orchard, guests scan a QR code to access the room’s high-tech controls. Providing an immersive guest experience through multi-sensory design, all functions of the room can be customised and adjusted by the guest using the app. Some of the features of The Transforming Room include a multipurpose workspace equipped with numerous outlets, a clock, a portable lamp, a drinking water tap, and a vanity mirror; a privacy screen to separate the space from the other side of the room; and an LG innovative display technology for movies, fitness classes, room control feedback and presentations.

Business travellers will also find space-saving TECE toilet technology that combines a toilet and bidet; a bathroom mirror with adjustable mood lighting; Dornbracht shower technology for a customisable and therapeutic shower experience, catering for guests’ personal health and wellness needs; a Murphy bed that enables the room to seamlessly transition from sleep mode to various multifunctional spaces such as a lounge, dining or meeting layout; a COMPOZ parfum module that allows guests to create and schedule their preferred playlist of scents, according to their mood and activity; synchronised lights and scents to create an ideal atmosphere; and an outside patio with greenery.

Pullman Hotels & Resorts has created The Transforming Room, an innovative concept room to meet the blended needs of today's travellers.

“At Accor, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of design and technology to enhance the guest experience,” says Damien Perrot, Global Chief Design, Technical Services & Innovation Officer for Premium, Midscale & Economy Brands, Accor. “The Transforming Room is a groundbreaking research initiative that allows us to observe and understand how guests interact within a multi-functional space. This insight is invaluable as we continue to innovate and create environments that adapt to the diverse and evolving needs of our guests, ensuring Pullman remains at the cutting edge of hospitality design.”

A Space for Both Work & Play

In The Transforming Room, restorative sleep experiences are achieved through a multi-sensory journey that helps guests relax and fall into a deep slumber. At the end of the day, housekeeping lowers the custom-designed Murphy from its discreet storage wall. With a few swipes of the app, the video screen switches off; blackout curtains slide shut; and the COMPOZ parfum module engages a series of scents to create an atmosphere that influences and induces sleep.

Mornings in the Transforming Room offer a personalised multi-sensory wake-up experience. At the touch of a button, the curtains slide apart to fill the room with natural daylight, boosting the body’s serotonin production. Throughout the day, scents can be shifted to suit various moods or activities, and these playlists of scents are set using the room app.

Pullman Hotels & Resorts has created The Transforming Room, an innovative concept room to meet the blended needs of today's travellers.

The Transforming Room prototype app also provides a variety of fitness and mindfulness sessions currently provided by PELOTON as well as digital art by ARTPOINT. The modular interiors easily shift to create extra space for wellness routines and workouts. The app is used to select personal wellness pursuits, guided by professional trainers, and displayed on the large in-room screen.

In-room dining is brought to the next level. With the Murphy bed returned to its hidden home in the wall, there is space to create an intimate private dining experience – ideal for a special dinner date; a celebration among friends; or a working lunch for a team of busy creatives

The all-new Four Seasons Hotel Osaka has arrived in the vibrant Japanese city

Featuring the city’s first contemporary ryokan experience on its own dedicated floor, Four Seasons Hotel Osaka welcomes local and regional guests and international travellers to discover why this fascinating city is rapidly increasing in popularity on the world stage

Housed within the new One Dojima multi-use building by architects Nikken Sekkei, the interiors of Four Seasons Hotel Osaka are by a trio of Japanese design leaders, Curiosity, Simplicity and Design Studio Spin. Every detail, every finish and every luxury has been carefully crafted to set the stage for the warm welcome and caring service for which Four Seasons is known across Japan and around the world.

The All-New Four Seasons Hotel Osaka has arrived in the vibrant Japanese city

Located in the city’s Dojima neighbourhood – home to numerous cosy cafes, hidden bars and scenic waterways as well as important historic sites – guests enjoy easy access to numerous other diversions by foot, car or boat, or even by train as a gateway to other cities.  The Hotel’s concierge team enthusiastically shares their recommendations, tailoring itineraries and making arrangements for business travellers to make the most of their time in Osaka.

Introducing Osaka’s First Luxury Ryokan Experience

The first of its kind in the city, Four Seasons Hotel Osaka debuts the dedicated GENSUI 玄水 floor, a contemporary ryokan experience from the moment guests step off the elevator on the 28th floor.  Welcomed with a cup of green tea by the floor’s specially-trained Four Seasons staff, guests are asked to remove their shoes and provided with slippers, or they can simply enjoy the feel of rush-grass tatami mats on bare feet as they pad to their room or suite.

Designed by Japanese studio Simplicity, each accommodation is a modern expression of Japanese customs and design principles, with the added luxury of unobtrusive modern conveniences.  Seating is low-slung, doors slide silently and washi paper headboards look over luxurious futon-style sleeping platforms.

Amenities include yukatas (relaxed cotton kimonos), a mini-bar featuring curated selections, and a bathing stool placed in the shower area.  GENSUI guests also enjoy exclusive access to SABO tea lounge, offering bento-style breakfasts, tea rituals, and evening sake and wine.

In addition to the accommodations on the GENSUI floor, Four Seasons Hotel Osaka offers 130 more guest rooms and 24 suites, all with elevated city views from the 29th to 35th floors of the Hotel.  With fabulous views from every accommodation, interiors offer an understated palette of harmonious colours, natural wood and stone finishes, crisp white linens and myriad thoughtful touches that define a stay at Four Seasons.

While the lavish Presidential, Grand Osaka and Dojima Suites are certainly the pinnacle of luxury, those in-the-know will opt for one of many rooms and suites situated at the building’s curved and angled corners, opening up panoramic views of the city and beyond.

Destination Dining, Drinking and More

In a city currently boasting 85 Michelin-starred restaurants, Four Seasons is once again raising the bar with a collection of unique dining and drinking concepts overseen by director of Food and Beverage Sebastian Gassen and executive chef Paolo Pelosi.

The Hotel’s signature restaurant is Jiang Nan Chun, where authentic Cantonese cuisine is presented in a striking setting that emphasises an interactive dining experience.  Here, under soaring ceilings and against glittering skyline views, guests are treated to barbecue specialities, as well as a show-stopping roast duck carved tableside.  The restaurant also offers two semi-private dining rooms plus one fully private room with its own show kitchen.

Also on the 37th floor is destination cocktail emporium Bar Bota. With a dramatic bar taking centre stage, this glamorous setting infuses Osaka’s vibrant cultural heritage with a global outlook. Head Bartender Andrei Marcu prepares handcrafted libations incorporating local botanicals, the finest Japanese whiskeys and gins, and Insta-worthy presentations.

The All-New Four Seasons Hotel Osaka has arrived in the vibrant Japanese city

Led by executive sous chef Hiroaki Nagaishi, Jardin was conceived as an airy, garden-like space where guests can enjoy an international semi-buffet breakfast each morning, exquisite afternoon tea sets crafted by executive pastry chef Hafiz Razali in the afternoon, and a menu of classic French dishes each evening. Guests can choose from both indoor and outdoor seating at Jardin.

Two additional venues are Farine, an artisanal bakery that offers light lunches, sweet treats and speciality coffees and teas on the go, and CHA, a quiet oasis infused with Japanese touches offering a handpicked selection of Japanese teas, for in-house guests only.  Both are located on the first floor at street level.

The hotel’s most exciting opening, at Sushi L’Abysse Osaka, two of the world’s most celebrated gastronomic cultures — French cuisine and the art of sushi — will meet, intertwine and respond to one another in unexpected ways. Taking its place at the frontier of culinary innovation, Sushi L’Abysse Osaka stands as a bridge between the modern French sensibility of chef Yannick Alléno, a visionary with 15 Michelin stars to his name, and the traditional sushi expertise of chef Itaru Yasuda, who has finessed his craft rigorously over nearly three decades in Japan and beyond.

The All-New Four Seasons Hotel Osaka has arrived in the vibrant Japanese city

As the third L’Abysse destination in the world, following Paris and Monte-Carlo, the restaurant invites epicures in Osaka to a wholly new dining experience, where French and Japanese techniques meet and mingle, rooted in a deep appreciation of seasonal ingredients sourced from across Japan, with nigiri at its centre. Encompassing the entire 36th floor of the Hotel, The Spa at Four Seasons is a sky-high oasis of relaxation, indulgence and wellbeing.  With soothing hues and curving lines, each space flows into the next as guests immerse in the healing connection of water throughout.  Five spa treatment rooms – including a couple’s room with a private bath – all offer lofty city views.

Signature rituals include a 100-minute, high-performance facial inspired by the legendary Empress Kōmyō, whose name signifies brightness and radiance; and a series of bath experiences harnessing the healing properties of seasonal herbs.  Along with a range of massages, facials and body treatments uniquely created for this spa, busy guests can also choose a mini-treat from a menu of 15-30 minute “Quick Replenishers.”

The All-New Four Seasons Hotel Osaka has arrived in the vibrant Japanese city

Wellness facilities also include ofuro (Japanese baths that have been an important part of daily life in Osaka for centuries) and sauna, a 16 metre (52 foot) indoor pool that appears to spill through windows into the city’s network of waterways, and a 24/7 fitness centre with motivating floor-to-ceiling views across the city.

Amara Singapore has unveiled a contemporary room redesign, celebrating 38 years of heritage

Following Amara Hotels & Resorts‘ announcement of its comprehensive brand redesign for its flagship Singapore properties, Amara Singapore emerges from the first phase of the refurbishment of its rooms. This latest transformation was crafted in collaboration with renowned hospitality design firm Studio HBA, a division of Hirsch Bedner Associates. The announcement marks the next milestone in the hotel’s commitment to offering unparalleled comfort and experiences to its guests within a home away from home.

Reflecting Tanjong Pagar’s Evolving Cultural Tapestry

Amara Singapore’s guestrooms have been crafted to reflect the evolving profile of the modern traveller. All 389 newly redesigned rooms at Amara Singapore have undergone sophisticated enhancements that reflect the hotel’s function as a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the city for guests.

Amara Singapore

The new design captures the hotel’s role as the vibrant social epicentre of the neighbourhood. Amara Singapore and Studio HBA have drawn inspiration from the vibrant gamut of cultural relics in the hotel’s vicinity. These include the traditional hawker stalls at Tanjong Pagar Plaza built in 1976, conserved shophouses found throughout the Chinatown Historic District dating back to the 19th century, and heritage trees in the nearby Duxton Plain Park.

The guest room corridors at Amara Singapore offer a tactile journey through the area’s rich historical charm. Intricate wallcoverings are inspired by the textured alleyways of neighbouring shophouses, seamlessly blending past and present. This motif continues into the guestroom, where earthy and natural textures inspire the selection of materials. Light and dark timber laminate, tan leather, and black metal complement each other. The bathrooms feature handcrafted porcelain tiles, evoking the charm of those found in traditional shophouses and adding an artisanal touch to the interior.

The interplay between wood, earthy material, and green accents is a symphony of design elements from the iconic historical stalwarts in the vicinity. This is further encapsulated by the lamps curated for each room, with their lamp shades evoking the quiet elegance of Chinese calligraphy and art found throughout the Chinatown Historic District.

Reflecting and Anticipating the Evolving Modern Traveller

Accommodating the dynamic needs of modern travellers today, guestrooms at Amara Singapore have been tailored to accentuate each guest’s stay, whether for business, leisure, or a blend of both. Each room comes equipped with a workstation and chaise lounge, ensuring the coexistence between relaxation and productivity.

Sustainability initiatives are also embraced to preserve our environment for the next decades of travellers to come. Each room comes with an energy-efficient air-conditioning system and energy-efficient motion sensor lighting. An in-room filtered water tap system has been installed to provide guests with fresh drinking water. These eco-friendly features seamlessly integrate with the room’s decor, echoing the area’s cultural heritage through traditional Chinese motifs, including lanterns, calligraphy, and rich timber accents.

Amara Singapore

“Amara Singapore has seen immense transformation in the past 38 years since it was first established in 1986. Evolving alongside Tanjong Pagar over the past four decades, we have adopted a design philosophy that pays homage to the hotel’s culturally rich environs,” says Dawn Teo, chief operating officer of Amara Holdings Limited. “This refurbishment is not merely a routine exercise of upgrading but a reinvigoration of our commitment to luxury and innovation while not losing sight of our roots as one of the first hotels in Tanjong Pagar to cater to business travellers.”
